of teaching how we learn . . .
Shift the ownership of learning
from teacher to student.
What is Self-Directed Schooling?
A self-directed schooling environment is a shift in both the authority and responsibility of learning from teachers to students, developmentally over time.
The infrastructure of traditional schooling redistributes resources and services for large populations - efficiency is the goal, often at the cost of student ownership.
The philosophy of self-directed learning places that ownership on students - efficacy is the goal, often at the cost of time and the desire for specific content to be learned.
SDS balances efficacy with efficiency.
